Amsterdam Day 2
breakfast and boat tour
We grabbed a quick breakfast this morning and then jumped on the included boat tour. We explored the canals and the main river. Amsterdam had just experienced one the largest summer storms ever, just a few days ago so we saw a lot of large downed trees and boat damage.
Food Tour
For lunch, we booked an Amsterdam Food tour. It was a 4-hour tour where we tried most of the notable or popular dishes and drinks in Amsterdam. Our first stop was at an old cafe that is one of the oldest cafes in Amsterdam. We tried traditional Dutch apple pie and coffee. At our next stop, we tried an Indonesian-style beef sandwich and beer. From there, we went to a dessert shop to try syrup waffles, chocolate truffles, and hot chocolate. To keep things interesting, they took us next to a butcher to try traditional Dutch sausages and meats. After the butcher, we made our way to a cheese shop where they age their own cheeses. We were served three different styles and ages of cheese with white wine. Our final stop was for herring, eel, and Bitterballen (a Dutchmeat-based snack, made by making a very thick stew thickened with roux and beef stock and generously loaded with meat) with beer.

After our tour, we did a little shopping for souvenirs and then stopped by the hotel for a quick rest. Later we continued exploring a little and stopped at a small cocktail bar and then a pub that only serves beer and drinks from the Netherlands.
