Marrakesh Day 1
Travel from FeS to Marrakesh
Today was our biggest travel day so far. We left Fes early in the morning and arrived in Marrakesh in the evening. By the time we arrived, everyone was ready to get off of the bus.
Along the way we stopped in Rabat, Morocco’s capital, to quickly look at the architecture and then stopped in Casablanca for lunch. While in Casablanca we visited Hassan II Mosque. It is the second largest functioning mosque in Africa and is the 14th largest in the world and has the world’s second tallest minaret. A maximum of 105,000 worshippers can gather together for prayer: 25,000 inside the mosque hall and another 80,000 on the mosque’s outside ground. It has a roof that is retractable to allow in sunlight and to help ventilate the space when there are many worshipers inside.
Dinner in Marrakesh
We made it to our hotel and then almost immediately headed out to dinner with a portion of our group. We had a nice meal at a rooftop restaurant not far from the hotel.
