Moops Moors

Lisbon Day 2

Sintra

After breakfast, we headed to Sintra by train. Sintra is a town just a 30 minute train ride from Lisbon. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can visit sites like the National Palace of Pena and the ruins of the Moorish castle. We chose the Moorish castle since you need to book a specific time to visit the Palace. The ruins were an amazing site where steep steps, walls, and parapets follow the contours of the mountain.

Fado Dinner

After returning to Lisbon, we stopped for a quick late lunch at a piri piri chicken restaurant and then caught a quick nap before dinner. We walked to dinner and took the funicular up the steep hill again, though Matt thought the entire experience takes too long and walked up the hill. Editors note: you can walk up to the top of the hill before the you get through the queue to get on the funicular. For dinner, we attended a Fado show with dinner. We had a 3-course meal with drinks. Fado is an old Portuguese song style that could be considered like American folk music. It was dreary and raining after dinner so we hopped a cab back to the hotel and took it easy.
